Lap Band and Weight
The lap band system is the brand name of the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band placed in the upper portion of the stomach.
To begin the lap band procedure, the lap band specialist will make a series of tiny incisions, then work with a small camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize placement of the lap band.
The lap band is placed around the top of the stomach and secured by sutures. The port is then placed beneath the skin on the upper part of the abdomen. Surgery generally runs anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital may or may not be required depending on the patient and their condition.
